“ARTICLE QUOTE” -

“A high-quality Realtor headshot is an essential marketing asset for any real estate professional. In the world of digital marketing, the real estate agent headshot is often the first time your prospects, leads, and clients will see your face. This makes having a professional, polished photo that represents who you are and what you stand for a must-have.”

Article Highlights

A good headshot can make you feel like a million bucks, but getting there can be overwhelming. Choosing the right poses, the right lighting, the right attire, and just finding the motivation to sit in front of a camera can all feel like mountains to some.
Unfortunately, with the world becoming more and more digitally dominant, having a good headshot has become essential to stand out in a crowd.

In this article, we will be going over some of our favorite tips and tricks from some industry experts.

Are you ready to get your face out there?

What do we think?

Don’t Just Pay for a Photo―Hire a Professional Photographer.

A photo taken by a professional photographer and a photo taken by your cousin will have their own pros and cons. Sure, it’s a lot cheaper to hire your cousin for the whole day and you will have a thousand shots, but a professional photographer will be able to give you a thousand shots with 50-70+ useability whereas your cousin may have only been able to get 4 in focus and the rest are overexposed. The professional photographer will know the best way to light you, pose you, and correct you to keep you confident through your shoot so your best you is photographed. As Michael Grecco, photographer and owner of Michael Grecco Photography, says, “You’re hiring someone to take control of the situation from start to finish, to guide you through your poses, make suggestions on your wardrobe, and teach you how to get the most out of every minute of their time. If your photographer isn’t making your photo shoot easy on you, you’ve got the wrong photographer.”

If price is a factor, here at ETA, we offer monthly free photo shoots with professional lighting, an on-set modeling guide to help you pose, and quick turn around. Have you searched your local Realtor communities to see if there are any other Agent Photoshoot events? Most communities will have an event going monthly for you to join, free of charge! (But you should obviously consider coming to ours!)

Make Sure Your Photographer Knows Exactly What You Expect to Get Out of Your Photo Shoot

What do you want out of this photoshoot? Is this a headshot for a business card? Is this a 3x4 for an instagram post? What is the intention of the photo? While a professional will do their best to get the look you want, it never hurts to come prepared with a plan of your expectations.

Setting a plan out for yourself gives your photographer a good base to go off of. Some questions I like to ask myself when I’m making this plan is 1. What kind of photo is this? Headshot, Three Quarters, Full Body, Waist Up? 2. Where is this going to be posted? Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, MLS? 3. What is the message I am trying to say? Am I selling a house? Am I generating leads? Am I just getting myself out there? Having these questions thought out will help both you and your photographer be on the same page.

Be specific, be vocal, and give your photographer some expectations,” - Chantay Bridges

Study Realtor Headshots You Like & Emulate Them

It can be difficult to think of poses. Kat Kaye recommends studying poses and headshots of other agents to draw inspiration. Don’t know where to look? Check out your local Realtors facebook groups! Most agents in local Realtor communities have an abundance of headshot photos for you to pull ideas from.

Once you have a collection of looks you like, there’s many sites like Pinterest that can help you organize the photos into a cohesive plan.

Be sure to share your plan with your photographer before the shoot so they can also make their own plans!

Use Your Headshot Consistently

People find confidence in familiarity, so don’t be afraid to overshare your headshots! In fact, it is encouraged! You should put your headshot on everything you can. Do you have a business card? Headshot. E-Signature Logo? Headshot. Listing Brochure? Headshot. Your headshot could be your first stepping stone to your next lead so why wouldn’t you put it everywhere?

As Shaunda Necole says, “Your headshot should precede you everywhere.
